“Microcosm explores the interplay of motion, growth, and transformation within natural and imagined worlds. Each painting acts as a window into vibrant ecosystems, where organic forms and architectural constructs intertwine to reflect life’s delicate balance between chaos and harmony.

“These works distill larger phenomena into small, intricate, and abstract compositions that invite viewers to find imagery and consider the beauty and complexity of the worlds within and around us.

“Through dynamic brushstrokes and luminous layers of color, Microcosm captures the fleeting essence of nature in perpetual motion.”

About the Artist

Cyan Garma (b. 1998) is a painter of Filipino-Japanese heritage currently living and working in Oahu. Introduced to illustration and street art at a young age, Garma carried a sketchbook for most of his life. While attending Azusa Pacific University in California and the University of Hawaii at Manoa, Garma was introduced to various painting traditions, including Abstract Expressionism, Surrealism, and Pop Art. These diverse influences played a significant role in shaping his work, prompting him to explore the intersection of “high” and “low” art genres.

Upon returning to Oahu, Garma experienced a profound shift in perspective, finding inspiration in the island’s rich natural environment and vibrant cultural tapestry. This newfound connection to his surroundings is vividly reflected in his paintings, which serve as a response to the beauty and vitality of the island.
